BYU Learning Suite FAQs

What access will I have to campus resources?

While the Wilkinson Student Center (WSC) and the Harold B. Lee Library (HBLL) will be open, we encourage students to find locations to study in smaller groups in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Some academic buildings may be closed to the public but available to employees and students with key or card access.

How can I prepare for remote instruction?

BYU has a site license for Zoom for remote instruction and many faculty will begin using it for lectures and other student interaction. Go to zoom.byu.edu to download the app and review instructions on its use to be prepared when classes resume. This is free for your use.
Find a location with a good internet connection. If you use a phone to receive content, use a wireless connection because phone companies are struggling to keep up with the demand for streaming.

What is Zoom?

Zoom is a new web conferencing solution. Zoom has a plethora of features including integration with ICON (Canvas), hosting online meetings and video conferences, scheduling webinars, questionnaires within meetings, and much more.

Who has access to BYU Zoom?

All active BYU students and faculty can host a Zoom Meeting. Individuals not associated with BYU can join a hosted Zoom Meeting.

Can I use Zoom for Church and other personal use?

All active BYU Students and Employees receive the benefit of a university purchased license for Zoom Video Conferencing. This is primarily for online classes and meetings. While work and school is the primary use for our Zoom licenses, individuals are also permitted to use Zoom for personal use. This includes church and family meetings. When using Zoom for personal use please do not save recordings of those meetings to the Zoom cloud. These meetings should be saved to your local computer if they are recorded. To ensure licenses are used properly, please never share your BYU Zoom id or password with others.
YSA stake and ward leaders who are not employees of BYU should work through their ecclesiastical line to obtain an appropriate video conferencing option.
