MPS Frequently Asked Questions

What is My Plaid Student?

My Plaid Student is a secure website operated by Carnegie Mellon University. My Plaid Student gives authorized users, such as parents or other family members, access to certain information about a student.

How does My Plaid Student work?

When students complete the authorization process, they can select what categories of information their invited user may access. At this time, information available through My Plaid Student is access to student account invoices and student account activity, the ability to make student account payments, and the ability to request enrollment verifications, as well as the ability to view grades, QPA, semester schedule, and financial aid award letter. Other categories of information may be available through My Plaid Student in the future. As new features become available in My Plaid Student, the student can update the areas of information available to the user.

How can a a parent or family member sign up for My Plaid Student?

The student grants access to the user (typically a family member of the student) via Student Information Online (SIO). The invited user will receive a guest invitation email with a link to begin the My Plaid Student registration and log-in process. After registering with Cirrus Identity Service, the user can then log in to My Plaid Student to view the student's information, as authorized by the student.

What is Cirrus Identity Service?

Registration with Cirrus Identity Service is needed to access My Plaid Student. The service uses certain social providers (Google, Facebook, LinkedIn) to offer protected access to My Plaid Student. These providers allow users to self-register for the My Plaid Student log in.

What if an invited user has an active Carnegie Mellon Andrew email account?

Those with valid, active Carnegie Mellon Andrew email accounts may register for My Plaid Student by selecting the 'Use CMU AndrewID' button on the registration page, instead of registering with Cirrus Identity Service. The guest invitation email sent to the invited user will include a link to the registration page.

What happens if an invited user starts the registration process but does not finish? Can they start over?

The invited user may begin the registration process from the beginning by clicking on the link in the invitation email. Please note that invitations expire 30 days after being sent. After 30 days, the invited user should ask the student to request a new invitation through Student Information Online (SIO).

Can the invitation link be clicked on twice so an invited user can sign up through Google and LinkedIn?

No. Only one provider account may be connected to My Plaid Student access.

If an invited user forgets which social provider they used during registration, what should they do?

The invited user may contact The HUB at thehub@andrew.cmu.edu for assistance.

If an invited user forgets their social provider account password, can Carnegie Mellon tell them what it is?

Carnegie Mellon does not have access to an individual's email or social provider account passwords.

If an invited user deletes the invitation email, can Carnegie Mellon resend it?
Only the student can initiate a new invitation email for the user. In Student Information Online (SIO), the student can edit user access to remove authorization and then re-invite. This will trigger a new email to be sent to the My Plaid Student user.

If a parent/family member has more than one student at Carnegie Mellon, how do they access both of their accounts?

Each student can grant access to My Plaid Student through their own SIO account. As the parent/family member completes the registration process for each invitation, it may be easier for future logins to register the same email account through Cirrus Identity for both invitations.

What should a parent/family member do if they do not have a Google, Facebook or LinkedIn account?

The parent or family member can create a Friends of CMU guest account or the parent/family member can establish a Google, Facebook or LinkedIn account. Those who have a Carnegie Mellon Andrew email account may use that to access MPS, as well.

What if a parent/family member has an AOL or Yahoo email account (or other email account not listed as an option during registration)?

The parent or family member can create a Friends of CMU guest account or the parent/family member can establish a Google, Facebook or LinkedIn account. Those who have a Carnegie Mellon Andrew email account may use that to access MPS, as well.

What is Friends of CMU?

By selecting 'Friends of CMU', an invited user will be able to create a 'Friends of CMU' guest account and use it to register for My Plaid Student. For best results, the account creation and registration process  should be completed at the same time and in the same browser.

HUB General FAQs

What services does The HUB offer?

The HUB is Carnegie Mellon's one-stop-shop student service center. The staff in The HUB provide services related to enrollment, including billing and payments, financial aid, course registration and scheduling, transcript and verification requests, diplomas, ID Cards, and more. The HUB assists currently enrolled students, parents/guardians of currently enrolled students, as well as faculty, staff and departments with all of the above.

Where is The HUB located and when is it open?

The HUB is located in the lower level (basement) of Warner Hall. Our regular business hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please note that regular business hours may differ from our walk-in hours.

What does "HUB" stand for?

"HUB" is not an acronym. The HUB is the student service center, where Student Financial Services (Student Financial Aid Office and Student Accounts Office), the University Registrar's Office, ID Card Services, and Summer Studies come together to provide a one-stop-shop for the enrollment needs of students and families. The HUB is considered to be the front door to or face of Carnegie Mellon's Division of Enrollment Services.

When is an invoice issued and how can I view it?

A student account invoice is a downloadable PDF document and includes upcoming student account charges and credits.
New student account invoices are produced at the end of each month and students (and other authorized bill payers) are notified via email. Carnegie Mellon does not print and mail invoices.
Email notification includes information about the student's billing statement and a link to Student Information Online (SIO), where the student will be able to view the invoice. Students can also view their previous monthly invoices on SIO.
To view the most recent account transactions, select 'Student Account Activity' under the 'Finances' tab in SIO.
